WATCH: VCSU Reclaims The Paint Bucket

After a back-and-forth contest, Valley City State University held on to defeat the University of Jamestown by a score of 23-15 Thursday night in the 76th Annual Paint Bucket Game.

A 53-yard touchdown pass from Nick Martinez to Isaiah Roebuck opened the scoring for the Jimmies. They preserved an 8-7 advantage at halftime thanks in part to a blocked field goal.

The Vikings rallied to take the lead early in the third quarter behind the strong play of returning QB Avery Thorsgard. His 190 yards through the air were accompanied by two touchdowns -- the second of which proved decisive in the victory. The Vikings avenged last season's overtime loss by winning the Paint Bucket and starting their season 1-0.
