Made Local Features: Northern Lights Dairy and Gilmore's Glorious Spice & Tea Mercantile
Dawson Holle, at just 20 years old is an accomplished 6th generation dairy farmer and even a legislator in the North Dakota Legislature! He and the Holle family--mom, dad, two brothers and a sister have grown their dairy herd to near 3,000 head, and with the help of a couple dozen employees milk around a thousand cows three times a day, every day, year 'round. They pride themselves on the care they give the cows in all stages of life, and as Dawson says, "quiet cows are happy cows!" He takes us through the innovations of a cow milking carousel to automatic calf feeders and more on the Northern Lights Dairy farm south of Mandan, North Dakota.
With a background in education and having experienced different cultures and cuisines, Sam Gilmore wanted a tangible way to share her love of spices and teas with others in North Dakota. She offers online stores on her website, separate Square and Bonfire sites, and keeps her spice and rub and tea blends affordable by offering them from as little as a tablespoon to larger bulk sizes; as much as customers need. Sam takes her spices to local vendor shows and sells t-shirts through Bonfire. Fall teas are dropping soon, and her Full Moon, Once in a Blue Moon, and Silver Moon teas are very popular. Gilmore makes her own blends and almost all of her products are her own mixes.
