HIGHLIGHTS: Oakes Holds Off E-E-K

The Oakes Tornadoes defeated the Ellendale-Edgeley-Kulm Thunder in their season opener Friday night.

Behind a strong first half performance, Oakes took control of the game using a balanced offensive attack. Senior tailback Mario Garza started the scoring before Blayson Dolney linked up with Maxin Walock for three scores through the air.

In the second half, the Thunder mounted a rally. After an injury to quarterback Jacob Nitschke, Damian Carlson scored both through the air and with his legs. Despite cutting the deficit to three points, time ran out on E-E-K's inspired effort.
