Education Reform, Charter Schools, and Federal Tax Credits: A New Era for North Dakota

Wigfall also announced a new grant that will fund an online hub to guide families and communities through the process. A study highlighting plummeting math and reading scores among American seniors added urgency to the discussion.

Gary and Catrin also touched on artificial intelligence, exploring its rapid rise and the role it may play in education. The program then shifted to a critical segment on the newly approved federal tax-credit scholarship provision, dubbed the “One Big Beautiful Bill.” This measure grants taxpayers a 100% dollar-for-dollar credit for donations to Scholarship Granting Organizations (SGOs), starting January 1, 2027. If North Dakota opts in, residents will be able to create powerful scholarship opportunities for students across public, private, and homeschool environments. Finally, Gary previewed National School Choice Week 2026, set for January 27 at the Capitol in Bismarck—a celebration of diverse learning environments and parental choice.

This episode highlights how charter schools, tax-credit scholarships, and school choice are shaping the future of education in North Dakota and across America.
