All of the offense came early in Friday night's chilly contest, with Bismarck scoring the opening touchdown on their very first drive. Senior running back Carter Henke, who scored more touchdowns than any running back in Class 3A this season, plunged to the pile-on from nine yards out to score his 18th touchdown of the year.
Davies responded with a long touchdown drive near the end of the first quarter, capped off by quarterback Gage Brewer's one-yard sneak. Malachi Werremeyer scored the two-point conversion to put Davies ahead 8-7.
The Eagles' run-heavy Power-T offense controlled the ball throughout the game, a complete style reversal from the first time these teams met back in early September. But ironically, it was a long pass that proved decisive for Davies. Early in the second quarter, Brewer found senior wideout Grant Tschosik on a deep post over the middle. The all-state athlete outran the Demons' defense, scoring from 87 yards away to extend Davies' lead to 15-7.
The Eagles' defense forced a key stop late in the 3rd quarter, and Davies would not relinquish possession again until the game's closing seconds. Bismarck burned their timeouts and forced a missed field goal, but did not have enough time to make a dent in the Davies lead late.
The Eagles' win sets up a 25th street showdown rematch with defending champion Shanley next week.
