Trent Loos Delves into Mental Health in Farming Community with Filmmaker-Farmer

As a conservative host, Trent appreciates the traditional values and hard work embodied by farmers, and he engages in a deep and thoughtful conversation with Leila about her film. They delve into the essence of the movie, discussing how it sheds light on the harsh realities and emotional struggles faced by individuals in the agricultural sector. Through their discussion, Trent and Leila hope to spark a wider conversation about mental health, making requests for help like any other illness, and provide a beacon of support and understanding for those who need it in the farming community.

Both Trent and Leila emphasize the need for more awareness and resources to help those facing mental health challenges in rural and farming regions. Through a conservative lens, they also explore how traditional community values can play a significant role in providing the support and camaraderie necessary to tackle these serious issues. The episode underscores the significant message that it's not just about farming, but about nurturing the human spirit and taking care of one another in times of need.

More about "Just a Farmer":
The Australian film "Just A Farmer" is currently in production, directed by Simon Lyndon in his first feature film role. Leila McDougall, who is also the writer and producer, stars in the film along with Robert Taylor, Susan Prior, Joel Jackson, and Trevor Jamieson. The movie is being shot in rural Victoria.

The story revolves around the character Alison, played by McDougall, who becomes a widow after her husband Alec (played by Joel Jackson) dies unexpectedly. She struggles with her husband's death, managing a failing farm, and caring for an alcoholic father-in-law, while raising her two children.

McDougall's own experiences as a farmer and teacher have influenced the film, which aims to highlight mental health issues in rural Australia. This theme is personal for McDougall, who co-founded the Live Rural charity focused on rural health. The film is based on the disturbing reality of higher suicide rates in rural areas compared to urban settings.

With a budget of about $1.9 million, this privately-funded production is providing first-time on-set experience for many crew members. The film utilizes local resources, including farming equipment, animal wranglers, and extras who are friends of the production team. McDougall hopes that "Just A Farmer" will encourage people in rural communities to seek help for mental health issues.
