As students head back to North Dakota colleges and universities in the coming weeks, many are wondering what thye will do after they get their degree. The Bureau of Labor Statistics conducted a survey to find the metros in North Dakota where jobs are growing the fastes. According to their data the top three fastest growing job markets in North Dakota belong to Fargo, Bismarck, and Grand Fork.

In the past year Fargo has added 900 jobs, Bismarck has lost 200 as workers seek opportunities in other fields, and Grand Forks has added 1,200 jobs to their market in the past year. That is an increase of over 2%.

Fastest Growing Occupations in North Dakota:

  1. Personal Care Assistant: This occupation has seen a growth rate of 131.3%, with an average wage of $31,890, and is projected to have 6,130 jobs​​.
  2. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT): With a growth rate of 130.1% and an average wage of $31,960, the demand for EMTs is significant, reflecting the growing need for emergency healthcare services​​.
  3. Software Developer: This high-wage job has grown by 129.1%, with an average wage of $79,820. It's noteworthy that software developers in North Dakota are earning significantly more than the average state worker, highlighting the rising importance of the tech sector in the region​​​​.
  4. Home Health Aid: This role has a growth rate of 128.0% and an average wage of $33,170, indicating a growing demand for in-home healthcare services​​.
  5. Registered Nurse: The demand for registered nurses remains high, with a growth rate of 124.4% and an average wage of $60,840, reflecting the critical role of nurses in the healthcare system​​.
