From Cornfield Tales & Scotland Jokes to CO2 Pipeline Rights

Trent shares a glimpse of his life from a cornfield and regals listeners with anecdotes about his daughter's recent return from Scotland, sparking a series of jovial exchanges and jests.

Still, amidst the levity, they do touch upon some serious matters. The controversy over ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) cameras in England is discussed, highlighting a British MP's surprising endorsement of vandalizing these surveillance tools. Additionally, Trent plays an illuminating clip from an Iowa CO2 pipeline meeting.

They round off the episode by expressing skepticism about the CO2 pipelines, emphasizing the profound importance of upholding property rights. For conservatives who appreciate a blend of humor and policy, "Across the Pond" delivers.

More on ULEZ:

Launched by Mayor Sadiq Khan on April 8, 2019, the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) initially mirrored the London congestion charging but there are specific diversions to allow for routes that avoid the ULEZ. It was later expanded in October 2021 to include the areas within the North and South Circular roads.

This policy has been recognized for its ambition in combating pollution, with the BBC's Tom Edwards in 2019 calling it "one of the most radical anti-pollution policies in the world". A YouGov poll in April 2019 indicated strong public support, with 72% of Londoners in favor of using emissions charging to address air pollution and congestion.

Despite the general support, the Federation of Small Businesses expressed concerns about the financial impact on small firms due to the extra costs. Opposition is also evident in certain communities; for instance, a poster in Orpington, southeast London, showcases resistance to the expansion. Ross Clark from The Spectator highlighted in 2022 that the expansion could disproportionately affect poorer Londoners who often own older, non-compliant vehicles.

Public consultation from Transport for London (TfL) revealed that 60% were against the expansion, with opposition even higher among outer London residents and workers at 70% and 80%, respectively. However, as of July 2023, there is a split in opinion among Outer London residents, with polling showing equal levels of support and opposition to the ULEZ expansion.
