Family Rallies Around Son After He Receives an Alarming Medical Diagnosis

After having a small tumor removed from his back, doctors discovered it was a schwannoma and postulated that these benign tumors could reappear throughout Hudson’s body as he continued to grow. These tumors are tricky because the only treatment is to remove them, which means the nerve is destroyed in removal. This could cause lifelong physical consequences.

Nicole shares how she and her son wrote a children’s book centered on family togetherness and speaks to the importance of having a family that rallies around you during difficult trials.

More on Schwannoma:

Schwannoma, a relatively rare tumor, primarily develops in the nervous system. It originates from Schwann cells, which play a critical role in supporting and safeguarding nerve cells within the nervous system. These tumors, generally benign and noncancerous, can occasionally transform into cancerous forms, though this is uncommon. Schwannomas, even when benign, can cause significant discomfort and symptoms. As they grow, they may exert pressure on spinal nerves, leading to pain in the legs and back, along with sensations of tingling, numbness, or weakness.

Schwannomas commonly manifest in the vestibular nerve, which connects the brain to the inner ear, affecting balance and hearing. When schwannomas become cancerous, they are more likely to impact specific nerves such as the sciatic nerve in the leg, the brachial plexus nerves in the arm, or the sacral plexus nerves in the lower back. Each of these locations corresponds to distinct symptoms and challenges, depending on the affected nerves and the extent of the tumor's growth.
